Day 137

Affirmation:

I only make choices that are beneficial to my life and support my well-being.

I only make choices that support my growth into a  more empowered and more authentic, loving human.

It is easy to get into the habit of making choices that do not serve one’s life or self.   That may be the habit of choosing an unhealthy relationship, choosing to be in situations which promote victimhood, or choosing to worry (which offers nothing positive to any experience).   Consciously choosing that which is physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthy is always the right choice, for both the self and others.  Choosing to nourish the body with the healthiest possible food is choosing well-being.  Choosing to end or avoid engaging in toxic situations is choosing to support one’s growth.  Choosing to view oneself as worthy and valuable is choosing empowerment.  Choosing to feel compassion, tolerance, understanding and acceptance is choosing authenticity.   Choosing to have a positive attitude and positive thoughts is choosing to be a more positive, loving person.   Being conscious of what one is choosing – and whether or not the consequences of those choices  support well-being – is an important part of living a joyful, healthy, authentic life of love and truth.

Day 129

Affirmation:

I am the example I wish to see.

I am an example of my highest values and beliefs.

I am an example of the Divine in the physical world.

I am an example of determination, fortitude and perseverance.

I am an example of grace, tolerance and compassion.

I am an example I can be proud of.

So often we look to others to be role models and examples of spiritual courage, fortitude, devotion, charity or enlightenment, such that we do not recognize our own example.   Remember that step you took away from those who did not support you?  A shining example of courage.  The day you took a deep breath and rose again, when every fiber of your being wanted to quit?  Fortitude  in the flesh.   Those infinite moments when you’ve silently whispered, “thank you” to a Universe of love?  Pure devotion.   Every time you’ve offered a smile, a helping hand, shared a dollar, given of your time to sit with a friend or family member?  Beautiful examples of charity.   And all of those intuitive flashes of pure knowing, awareness, and unity?  Enlightenment.    Just for today, let’s see ourselves as our own heroes and our own role models.  Look in the mirror and see the example we are.

Day 128

Affirmation:

I am grateful for limitless possibilities.

I am grateful for opportunities to have all that is positive in my life.

I am blessed with a beautifully abundant and balanced life.

I have wealth and I am grateful.

I have a fulfilling purpose and I am grateful.

I have inner peace and I am grateful.

I have healthy relationships and I am grateful.

I have a healthy body and I am grateful.

I have a soul satisfying spiritual life and I am grateful.

I enjoy life’s pleasures and I am grateful.

Financial wealth, fulfilling purpose/work, inner peace, healthy relationships, physical health, connection to self and spirit, and time for fun and relaxation… These are seven fundamental components of an abundant and balanced life.   If asked, many people would likely say that at least one of these areas in their lives has been sacrificed for another.  Perhaps work that creates wealth has caused relationships to be shortchanged.  Or maybe a deeply spiritual life has been created at the expense of wealth.

So why do we give up one thing in order to have another?  Why don’t we strive to have it all?  Sadly, many of us – usually unconsciously – do not believe we’re worthy of “having it all” and without the belief in our worthiness we never will.  A good many more do not consciously believe it’s possible.  It’s an all too common misconception that only through sacrifice can we achieve our goals.  Of course if that were true no one would “have it all” and many do.  Remember, if but ONE PERSON can achieve something, then so can anyone, even you and I.  Still others feel selfish or self-centered just thinking about wanting to “have it all.”  Those are limiting beliefs planted in us by others and they need to be uprooted. No one needs to settle for three out of seven when seven of seven is possible,  and everyone has the same potential for that perfect seven.

Day 127

Affirmation:

My emotions are a response to my experiences.

How I respond to my experiences is my choice.

I alone am responsible for my emotions.

I live in conscious awareness of my emotions.

I choose how I feel.

I am emotionally responsible.

Happiness – and its counterpart, unhappiness – are the result of an interpretation of an experience.   Every experience we have is interpreted by our minds (often unconsciously) as either positive, negative, or neutral and our emotional response is the result of that interpretation.  Our emotions are subjective and personal.  What makes one person happy (being in the woods, for example) might make another feel frightened.   How the experience is interpreted is up to the experiencer.  And it is a choice.  How do we know it is a choice?  Because we can program our reactions to experiences.  The person who is fearful of being in the woods can consciously choose to overcome that fear and feel at peace instead.  Others in our world contribute to our experiences, offering us opportunities to choose our interpretation and our emotional response, but they are not the cause of our emotions.

While we can not always choose our experiences, we can choose how we react to them.  And we can change old habitual patterns of response that may no longer serve us into healthier, better-feeling ones.  When we do, we become emotionally responsible, empowering ourselves with our own emotional well-being.

Day 126

Affirmation:

I cannot save the world.

I cannot save anyone.

I can love.  I can support.  I can empower.  But it is not my responsibility to save.

Caring and compassionate persons are often plagued with feelings of guilt, self-blame and self-loathing because they cannot save others from their pain or their own demise.   We should be offering our love and support, but with the firm awareness that it is not our responsibility to save anyone.   When we make another’s success or thriving our responsibility, we  weaken them.   Taking responsibility for others that is not ours to take, not only disempowers them, but it falsely and egoically, empowers us.   In other words, to do so is unhealthy for everyone.   What our loving, heart-centered selves can do is give others tools, knowledge and wisdom.  We can give them support and consolation.  We can give them love, as much as they will allow us to give.   We must always strive to empower others in their own choices and by affirming their responsibility for themselves.  It is so very hard not to want to save every suffering soul, but we only disempower them when we make it our responsibility to do so.

Day 125

Affirmation:

I celebrate life.

I celebrate the miracles, joys, successes, bounty, imperfection, health, love, triumph, growth, prosperity, support, opportunities and Presence, in my life.

I celebrate the big reveals in the small details.

I celebrate living.

Life is not always easy but it always holds something to cherish, to honour and to celebrate.  It may be storming but outside birds still sing.   Find a reason to celebrate.  Look around the world and see the goodness, the glory and the greatness!  Look in the mirror and see the smile, the wisdom and the potential!    Rejoice in the monumental small details, the clean water, the gentle hug, the bee that dances from flower to flower.   Celebrate good times, past, present, and future.   Celebrate the Divine and Sacred gift of existence!   Find a reason, any or none at all, but CELEBRATE!

And if my passionate words aren’t enough…. listen and just try not to dance!  Celebrate!

Day 124

Affirmation:

Today I will make time to experience the wonders of the physical world.

I will deliberately pay attention to the wonders all around me.

I will look,

I will SEE,

and I will be in AWE.

In the United States the interstate highway maximum design speed in rural areas is 75 mph.   Speeds on a single-track country road in the United Kingdom can be as high as 60 mph (97 km/h).   On Italy’s Autostrade, speeds can reach 150 km/h.   Bicyclists average 12-22 mph.  Joggers average 4-7 mph.  Even the average walking speed is 3.1 miles per hour.  How much do we actually see at any of those speeds?  Consider all the wonders that are missed because we are moving too fast to see that odd little bug toodling across the pavement, or the rabbit scurrying under the bushes, or the water droplet precariously perched for its descent on the edge of a blade of grass?  As children we didn’t just look at nature, we SAW it, but as adults we have places to go and things to do and speeds to keep, much to our detriment.  Seeing the wonder of nature keeps us humble, connected and centered in the mystery.  Take time to go out in the world for the sole purpose of witnessing the wonder.  Don’t just walk, kneel, reach and SEE.  If you don’t remember how, take a child along and follow their lead!

Day 123

Affirmation:

I give gifts freely, without  strings attached.

Once I give a gift I let go completely.

What someone does with a gift I give is none of my business.

A true gift is the one given without the giver attached to it.  If we give someone a vase and do so expecting they will fill and display it, we are attaching ourselves and our expectations to the gift.  Under those circumstances we are not truly giving; we are sharing.  A true gift has no such strings.  It is not given with any expectation of being used, worn, displayed, or eaten.  There may hope, but no expectation, and certainly no disappointment if it is not.  A true gift originates in the desire to give, not in the desire to see one’s self or worth reflected in that gift’s use.

Day 89

Affirmation:

I keep my focus in the direction of my desires.

If we desire abundance but keep seeing lack everywhere we look, we need to turn and look in a different direction.  If we desire health but our attention is only on ailing, we must change our point of view.  We cannot experience, achieve, or manifest a desire if we’re looking in the direction of what we do not want.  And since we can only see in the direction we face, we must be facing that which we desire.  If we desire harmony, we must look in the direction of harmony rather than staring at discord.  If we wish to have a life we are grateful for, we must be seeing that which we are grateful for.  If we do not like what we’re seeing, we must change our position.

Day 86

Affirmation:

Today I will pause to reflect on the many who have chosen to share some time on this planet with me.

I am thankful to my beloved for choosing to share another day with me, recognizing that it is a choice.

I am thankful to my family for choosing to share some of their time on earth with me, recognizing that it is a choice.

I am thankful to my friends for choosing to let me walk a while with them in life, recognizing that it is a choice.

Just as we’re learning to appreciate the role choice plays in our lives, we can also appreciate the choices of others, and how their choices make a positive difference in our world. Every day that a friend is still a friend,  we are blessed by their choice to share part of their journey with us.  Even those we appear to be well rooted in life with – children, parents and spouses – can choose at any time to be elsewhere and without our company.  When we acknowledge that our interactions and time shared are based on choice, we’re less likely to take them or our relationships for granted, instead experiencing each moment with a fully grateful heart.

Day  80

Affirmation:

I release my fears.

I have no fears.

I have no fear.

I have no fear.

I have no fear.

No fear.

No fear.

NO FEAR.

There is no greater hindrance to happiness, fulfillment, empowerment, abundance, or success than fear.   Cultivating love is a beautiful goal but cultivating love without eliminating fear is only doing half the work.  The  reality is that the world is already filled with love- we are love, as is every other creation on the planet.  Love is the Essence of all that is.  The love that is omnipresent is simply hidden by the shadow that fear casts over it.   In a world free of fear, love is automatically revealed.   It’s time to let go of fear so that love can reign…

Imagine a world where no one is afraid to love, afraid to die, afraid to be themselves, afraid to speak their truth, afraid to share their talent, afraid to fail, afraid to succeed, afraid of rejection, afraid of being alone, afraid of being controlled, afraid of being without control,  afraid of being wrong, afraid of being happy, afraid of others, afraid of the unknown, afraid of change, afraid of losing (money/jobs/friends etc.), afraid of what others think, afraid of power, afraid of tomorrow, or afraid of having it all.  A world without all that fear is a world of joy, success, abundance, prosperity, tolerance, acceptance, community, adventure and LOVE.

Day 79

Affirmation:

I accept change as part of my ongoing evolution.

I welcome rebirth in my life without resistance.

I celebrate spring as an opportunity for renewal within myself and my life.

While our seasons of rebirth may not always coincide with the rest of nature we can allow the newly reactivated Life Force energy around us in Spring to facilitate growth in our lives. We can use this season to break forth from any resistance we might feel and allow life to transform us into whatever beautiful, amazing, spectacular creations we are meant to become.  Spring is a chance for each of us to remember that we are also the Life Force animated, that we too have within us all potential, and to ask ourselves some really invaluable questions.

  • Am I resisting a natural renewal and rebirth in any part of my life?
  • Am I struggling against change that I cannot avoid?
  • Am I allowing myself to be a part of the natural cycles of change?
  • What are the opportunities for growth that are disguised as challenges?
  • Are there any ideas I’d like to consider birthing into my life?
  • Would I like to engage in any new activities, hobbies, or courses of study?
  • Are there changes in any areas of my life that I’ve wanted to make and haven’t?

Spring isn’t just for the birds and bees, it’s also for our souls and spirits.  If allowed, it can awaken, resurrect, and remind us that we are intended to live in seasons of change, ever-growing toward our highest and most beautiful potential.

Day 53

Affirmation:

I am stronger than I appear to be.

I am stronger than I think I am.

I am not yet as strong as I will be.

We may be physically small, weak, or feel challenged by our body, age, or intellect, but no matter what the perceived limitation, we are ALL stronger than we appear to be, and undeniably stronger than we think we are.   The strength I’m referring to  is inner strength, what we think of as courage, determination, fortitude, grace and integrity.   This inner strength has carried each of us through life’s storms.   It has given us the will to get out of bed when we all we want to do is hide under the covers.   Our strength allows us to stand up for others without a second thought.  It nudges us gently into relationships that are so good they scare us, and forcefully walks us away from those so bad they wound us.    Our inner strength allows us to face our fears, go for our goals, recover from pain, and express ourselves authentically.

Think of a time when you were sure you could not take another step in life,  a time when hope was nothing more than another 4-letter word.    Something propelled you out of the abyss.  What was it?  It wasn’t  the friend, book or doctor.  It was you.   Before anything external can help us move from misery to recovery, we must first reach the point of wanting better for ourselves and creating that space where better can be seeded.  And  it is inner strength that births that desire for better, allowing us to find or accept help.   Our strength never leaves us, no matter what happens to our bodies or our situations.  Not only is it a permanent part of our beings, it grows with each trial.   It reminds us that we’ve overcome before and will again.  It says, “If I could go through that, I can get through anything.”

Day 52

Affirmation:

I am flexible in my journey, how it unfolds and where it leads.

I am open to seeing new doors as they appear in front of me, walking through them if invited.

I let go my rigid expectations and create an open space of willingness to accept and receive the unexpected gifts of the Universe.

I allow my fixed dreams and desires to become malleable.

We all know someone who has stopped struggling toward a goal or desire, only to then achieve it.  Or let go of a dream, certain it would never be realized, only to then know something better or even more fulfilling.  Imagine how many people have missed out on great relationships, jobs, and experiences because those presented them didn’t match their criteria.  Life rarely offers the straight and well paved road to where we wish to be.  More often it’s filled with unexpected twists and turns, and blind corners that keep us guessing.  If we are willing to be flexible and open to the unknown, if we are willing to trust that there is a universal force at work in our lives that knows even better than we do how to reach our desired happiness, and if we surrender our small will to that force, miracles will happen. When we create a space of openness in our hearts and minds for the unknown and are willing to step forward and say YES to it, we make ourselves and our lives available for all that is beautiful, fulfilling and joy-full.

Day 27

Affirmation:

The foundation of my life is built from the inside out.

I consciously live my life upon a strong, enduring, and independent foundation of self-worth.

We can appreciate the opinions others have of us- both good and not so -but the opinions we have of ourselves are those from which we must cultivate our self-worth.  Valuing and validating ourselves based on the feedback of the external world makes for an unsteady, temporary and dependent foundation of self-worth.   In truth, the worth found in the feedback of others or the world is not self-worth at all, it is external-worth.   Self-worth is inner-worth, a sense of value that originates from within the self.   What the world thinks can support our feelings of self-worth but is an artificial and unstable source for them.

Day 26

Affirmation:

Each morning I begin again, alive with hope, determination, and courage.

I awaken to each day as if awakening to another incarnation.

Every new day delivers the promise of full potential.  Each morning is the start of a new, 24-hour lifetime.  No matter what setbacks or disappointments yesterday brought, a new day promises new opportunities and every chance to start again- in love, hope, courage, faith, determination, and empowerment.

Day 22

Affirmation:

Today I intend to see the world as a playground where I will let my inner child out to play.

The inner child is often only given his or her due consideration when an issue is being worked through or a trauma is being healed.   Few have escaped childhood without some emotional wound- and while it’s valuable to reclaim and love that inner child into our healing- he or she can offer us something else, something equally valuable.  That little boy or little girl who permanently resides in each of us doesn’t just hold pain, he or she also holds joy, abandon, wonder, and a true sense of play.   Let’s not only hold those inner children as precious victims but also as mighty examples of how to live life fully.  Let’s let our inner little boys and girls go out today and have some fun.  Let them remind us how to laugh at ourselves, how to make messes we can be proud of and how to be generous and forgiving.

Day 20

Affirmation:

I am grateful for every blessing in my life, big or small.

I am grateful for every blessing disguised as a challenge.

I express my gratitude often, both silently and aloud.

I make feeling grateful a habit.

Running water and a running car, friends and family, clothes and comfort; a desk, a computer, a light to see by and fingers to type with; the re$ources needed to enjoy life, be safe, eat well and sleep in peace; time, space, soul and heart; love and longing, naysayers and roadblocks, clouds and sun and soil and rain; seed to feed to birds, ears to hear their songs, and a mouth to smile at the loveliness of it all…..

Day 18

Affirmation:

Right now, right here, I am strong, determined and unwilling to let fear undermine my author-ity.

I refuse to allow fear to disable my creative potential.

I refuse to let fear dis-able me.

I choose to move beyond fear and into my potential.

Imagine a fear-full person preparing to skydive.  He stands in the doorway of the plane, holding on to whatever will keep him safely in the plane.  He’s rigid, rooted in place, unable to take that step out of the plane.  He is paralyzed by his fear, and in that moment, all potential is disabled.  All forward motion is stopped.  No progress can be made.  His fear has dis-abled him.  In the very same way, fear has the potential to dis-able us in our ordinary, day-to-day lives.  We are the authors, creators and inventors of our lives but when in fear, all potential is frozen.  We can not move forward.  We can not jump into life with enthusiasm.  We can not experience the abundant, joy-full, loving experiences that are waiting for us. But in spite of our fears, we have choices and we can choose to push ourselves beyond our fear and into our potential.

Day 14

Affirmation:

I am ever grateful to a Universe that never fails to ensure I have support.

I am grateful to those who show up in my life to help me overcome challenges and sort through life’s confusion.

I walk my journey always with the support of at least one other loving soul, to whom I am grateful.

This brilliant, loving, Divine Universe never allows us to find ourselves in the middle of an issue, struggle, challenge, obstacle, difficulty, trauma or heartache without ensuring that we have at least one human companion to help us through.  That person may be a stranger with sage wisdom or brute strength, or it may be a beloved with time to listen.  They may be in our lives only to help us through that problem, or they might be or become a lifelong friend.  We may feel totally and utterly alone in the world, but there is always someone, somewhere in our experience, who is there specifically to help.  The key is to allow our earth angel into our experience.  We can’t be so stuck in feelings of isolation that we do not see or hear their presence.  They are there, waiting for us to give them an opening.  No matter how hard life gets, remember- somewhere in the world is at least one person, sent and ready to help, when we are ready to receive.

Day 13

Affirmation:

I will not let fear keep me from authentic relationships.

I will not make excuses, when fear is the real roadblock.

I have the courage I need to take a chance on love… and I will.

Stop thinking… just jump.
