Day 137

Affirmation:

I only make choices that are beneficial to my life and support my well-being.

I only make choices that support my growth into a  more empowered and more authentic, loving human.

It is easy to get into the habit of making choices that do not serve one’s life or self.   That may be the habit of choosing an unhealthy relationship, choosing to be in situations which promote victimhood, or choosing to worry (which offers nothing positive to any experience).   Consciously choosing that which is physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthy is always the right choice, for both the self and others.  Choosing to nourish the body with the healthiest possible food is choosing well-being.  Choosing to end or avoid engaging in toxic situations is choosing to support one’s growth.  Choosing to view oneself as worthy and valuable is choosing empowerment.  Choosing to feel compassion, tolerance, understanding and acceptance is choosing authenticity.   Choosing to have a positive attitude and positive thoughts is choosing to be a more positive, loving person.   Being conscious of what one is choosing – and whether or not the consequences of those choices  support well-being – is an important part of living a joyful, healthy, authentic life of love and truth.

Day 89

Affirmation:

I keep my focus in the direction of my desires.

If we desire abundance but keep seeing lack everywhere we look, we need to turn and look in a different direction.  If we desire health but our attention is only on ailing, we must change our point of view.  We cannot experience, achieve, or manifest a desire if we’re looking in the direction of what we do not want.  And since we can only see in the direction we face, we must be facing that which we desire.  If we desire harmony, we must look in the direction of harmony rather than staring at discord.  If we wish to have a life we are grateful for, we must be seeing that which we are grateful for.  If we do not like what we’re seeing, we must change our position.

Day 87

Affirmation:

I am a garden

I am creation manifest.

I am growing, evolving, transforming and bearing the fruits of love abundantly.

I nourish myself of my harvest and share infinitely with others.

In our most natural state, we are gardens.  We grow strongest in well fertilized soil, are in a constant state of transformation, and our existence is often plagued with pests and weeds, but with mindfulness, and the help of others, we overcome and become productive.  Our perennial crop is love, and when upon harvest we have enough for ourselves and others.

Day 86

Affirmation:

Today I will pause to reflect on the many who have chosen to share some time on this planet with me.

I am thankful to my beloved for choosing to share another day with me, recognizing that it is a choice.

I am thankful to my family for choosing to share some of their time on earth with me, recognizing that it is a choice.

I am thankful to my friends for choosing to let me walk a while with them in life, recognizing that it is a choice.

Just as we’re learning to appreciate the role choice plays in our lives, we can also appreciate the choices of others, and how their choices make a positive difference in our world. Every day that a friend is still a friend,  we are blessed by their choice to share part of their journey with us.  Even those we appear to be well rooted in life with – children, parents and spouses – can choose at any time to be elsewhere and without our company.  When we acknowledge that our interactions and time shared are based on choice, we’re less likely to take them or our relationships for granted, instead experiencing each moment with a fully grateful heart.

Day 75

Affirmation:

I do not make hasty or snap decisions.

I understand and embrace the power of time.

I allow important decisions to marinate in my soul before finalizing them.

It is rarely in our best interest to make an important decision or answer a life changing question the moment it’s presented.  In that moment we may be too emotionally engaged or in an overly analytical state.  Our best decisions are made when our emotions, our minds and our inner being are in alignment, not when one part of us is dominating the decision-making process.  To insure that we make the best decision it’s helpful to let the situation sit quietly in our beings for a time, without ruminating.  Better still, we can take the matter to bed with us and sleep on it.  During the sleep state, higher consciousness is active and able to prepare the mind to make the right decision on waking.  When we give our important concerns over to higher consciousness while we sleep,  we usually wake with renewed clarity on the matter and very often we’ll find we wake up “just knowing” what to do or how to proceed.

Day 55

Affirmation:

I consciously create the legacy I wish to leave.

I act in harmony with how I wish to one day be remembered.

How we remember someone when they leave this world is largely the result of how they lived.   We are remembered  for our words and our  deeds.   It is not the selfish, intolerant and cruel who are remembered as heroes, saints and humanitarians.  While no one should live their life worrying about what others think, it can be a nice wake up call to stop and ask, “What do I want to be remembered for when my time here is done?”   If the answers are in harmony with how we’re now living, then who we are and how we want to be thought of are aligned.   If they are not, it’s never too late to begin living the legacy we desire to leave.  It’s not too hard either.  To be remembered as a gentle warrior for love, gently love.  To be remembered as a shooting star, work toward your dreams.  To be remembered as authentic, be yourself.

Day 51

Affirmation:

I choose a positive perspective no matter what my situation is.

If we see ourselves as victims of this world we cannot feel grateful for all that is right in our lives . If our focus is on what we perceive as lacking, we can not see all that we have. But when we come at life from the other side, seeing what we love and want and cherish and appreciate and learn from, we no longer see what we don’t want, don’t like, and don’t feel good about.  When our focus is on what is uplifting, we don’t see what brings us down.  When our hearts are feeling grateful for the plenty we do have, we aren’t giving attention to what we think is missing.   While in the midst of positive, limitless, hopeful thoughts, we are not having negative, limiting and doubting thoughts.  Having and maintaining a positive perspective changes everything because it changes everything.

Day 46

Affirmation:

I release any judgments that I hold about myself or others.

I avoid labeling, contrasting and comparing.

I accept that all things just ARE.

Labeling and comparing (things to things and people to people) produces judgments and valuations.  When self-judgments are held onto we keep ourselves trapped within the ego space and duality.  When we hold onto judgments about others we keep ourselves trapped within the ego space and duality.  But when we release ourselves from the habits of duality- placing all things into categories of good or bad, less or more, better or worse- we begin to experience unity and Divine grace.  We begin to find ourselves in the heart space.  When we let go the habits of duality we see all things as varying expressions of the One- creating contrast, opportunity, and diversity.   And appreciating all of it.

Day 21

Affirmation:

There is no obstacle that can’t be overcome.

There is no problem without a solution.

I will not be diminished by my circumstances.

As frustrating as roadblocks in life can be, there are none that can’t be overcome.  If met with an obstacle in our path we can look for ways around, over, or even under it.  If still no solution is apparent, we can seek Divine guidance and trust that a way to handle the situation will reveal itself.  Most of the time we don’t really need to rush to find an answer – though we might think we do – and forcing one is rarely helpful in the long-term . Remember, if we worry or fight against a problem we only create resistance to finding a positive outcome but if we can approach it with an empowered and calm surety we create an opening for a solution to be known and a way forward to be shown.

Day 19

Affirmation:

I put my attention today on that which is abundant, prosperous and joyous, thereby planting the seeds that tomorrow may bring abundance, prosperity and joy.

Sometimes it’s hard for the mind to step out of what it sees as an inevitable reality (such as a future of doom and gloom) in order to realize that there is no inevitable reality.  Tomorrow only exists in the mind and it is being created by the seeds that our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs are planting today.  To stop the process of creating a future we don’t want to experience, we must begin by imagining the future we want today.   We cannot plant turnip seeds if we want daisies to bloom tomorrow.

Day 222

Affirmation:

Today I will allow the river of my heart to flow freely to its Source and to others as part of our interconnectedness.

______________________________

The heart is like a river. When closed it can be likened to the river that has had its flow unnaturally impeded by a dam. When the heart is open it compares to a river flowing freely as part of a larger system, connected to other rivers, streams, and tributaries.  A freely flowing river also has the potential to be directly connected to its source, the ocean.  The human heart and its energies connect each person to every other living thing, seen and unseen, and to the energy of Creation itself, our Source.  The challenge is to keep the heart open and flowing. Every human is born with their hearts wide open, freely receiving and giving of love. One look in a the eyes of a contented baby and you can see it. Their little sighs tell you that they are awash in the energy of love. As we grow we experience woundedness, betrayals of trust, and other’s fear given to us in the guise of love. It’s those experiences that create the shutdown of our hearts.  In order to protect our emotional selves we dam up. We withhold love until a recipient is proven worthy.  We revoke love the moment we feel threatened in a relationship.  The ego responds to the threat in the same way the endochrine system responds to a physical threat, and the result is flight or fight. In the case of the heart, we all too often choose flight.  But therein lies the key, we choose. It may well be an unconscious choice but it is a choice, one most of us are asked to make at some point in our lives.  Daring to let love flow freely, both to and from the heart, takes courage, but without surrender, we remain like the damned river, our hearts closed off and unable to feel the connection to life, others, or our Source.

Day 187

Affirmation:

I seek personal balance in my life.

My thoughts, emotions, actions and spiritual practices share equal roles in my daily experience, with none dominating.

I consciously choose to maintain personal balance by paying attention and making adjustments as needed.

                                            ___________________________________

Personal equilibrium is achieved when our states of doing, feeling, thinking and be-ing, have equal parts in our daily experience.  We don’t have balance in our lives when we are constantly doing and always on the go.   We also don’t have balance when our thoughts are like flies, incessantly darting about our minds, restless and  haphazard.  Nor do we have balance when we’re spending most of our time in meditation, spiritual devotion, or self-work.  One way to know that we’re out of balance is when emotions are erratic or easily provoked.   Another tell-tale sign is when it seems that we only have two speeds- on and off.  When out of balance, we don’t feel settled.  If imbalance persists for too long, the body will get involved and illness may take place.  We can make sure we maintain that equilibrium by paying attention to daily habits.  Are you always on the go, never running out of things to do?  Are you spending so much time in your thoughts that things aren’t getting done?  Are you so enmeshed in your spiritual life that you don’t feel grounded or effective in the physical world?  Consciously taking the time to make a few shifts can bring the inner world quickly back into balance, and infinitely more joy to daily life.

Day 156

Affirmation:

I am grateful for this gift, disguised as a problem.

I know that I will be delivered from this gift to an even greater one, because I will accept nothing less.

Thank you.

_______________________

A serious problem has presented itself.  It is something that, at first glance, might even feel too big to overcome.  The usual response to such a perceived threat is for the victim-mind of the ego to quickly take control.  When this happens we either feel defensive or suddenly powerless.  Powerlessness prompts feelings of panic or worry, with thoughts that begin, “How will I ever…” or “I can’t possibly…”   Defensiveness will give rise to anger, a need to attack, and thoughts that begin, “How dare they…”   While both of those responses are normal -from an ego-centered perspective- they are never in our best interest.  Responding from a healthy, empowered sense of self will always yield a better outcome.

We can avoid egoic reactions by first recognizing their immediate march to the front of our consciousness, and then by saying no to them and refusing to react in any way.  Begin by instantly detaching.  Immediately become an observer of the situation and see it for what it is.  In that light it might not even be as serious as it first appeared.  Then, serious or not, remind yourself that a  problem can only be as big as your perception of it.  Affirm to yourself that whatever it is, it is manageable and that, under the facade of trouble it presents, is a gift waiting to be revealed.

By approaching problems from a place of positive perspective and empowered response, you set the wheels of the Universe in motion to present you with precisely what you are affirming-a greater gift on the other side of the one you are holding.

Every time you catch yourself starting to have a thought of worry or anger, stop!  Recite the mantra, “Thank you for this gift, I accept it as such.  I know that I will be delivered from this gift to an even greater one, because I will accept nothing less for myself.  Thank you.”  Feel grateful and excited about where this may lead and what it may reveal.  If you are diligent about remaining empowered,  you will not allow the victim-mind of the ego to take control.  And I promise you, you will be amazed at how beautifully the problem resolves!

Day 153

Affirmation:

I am not separate from the Divine.

I am infinitely and eternally connected to and a part of *All that IS*.

         _____________

The force of  *All that IS* runs through the heart and breath, spirit and soul, consciousness and existence, of every living thing, including you.   It is that very force,  that genesis spark, that presence and essence, that has animated you and given you to yourself to experience.  You can not be separate from that which is everywhere, everything, and everyone.    Feeling separate  is an illusion created in the shadows.   But if you turn on your heart and  feel love, there you’ll find *IT*, where *IT* has always been and always will be.

Day 114

Affirmation:

I keep my thoughts positive and on what is right, working, and abundant in my life.

If  a negative thought enters my mind, I do not give it any merit or attention, I replace it with a positive thought.

I put my mental and emotional attention on the thoughts that promote  joy, happiness, feeling good, peace, harmony, gratitude, well-being, empowerment, and love.

                        _______________________________________

Every time you have a thought you plant a seed in your mind that has the potential to grow and become part of your physical experience.  This is how you create your world, your tomorrows and your next moments, with your thoughts, planting one seed at a time.  The attention we give to those thought-seeds is the fertilizer they need to grow.  If a thought merely passes through one’s consciousness, it is unlikely to ever become a manifested experience.  But if a thought-seed is fed one’s attention, it is being nurtured and it will begin to grow roots.  When the attention we place on our  thought-seed is imbued with emotion, we are feeding it with the most powerful fertilizer and is likely to sprout into physical reality.  If I have a thought such as, “I am without love.”  I have planted a “without love” seed.   If  I give that thought-seed my continued attention and focus, and if I have strong emotions accompanying my attention, that seed will likely become a manifested  experience of being or feeling “without love” in my physical world.   This is why it can be so hard to lift ourselves out of a negative state of mind.  Every negative thought plants a seed that produces more of the same, leaving us spiraling in a difficult direction.   This is also why it is so important to think thoughts of what we want, what we love, what we hope for more of, what we dream of having, and of what is right, functioning, and abundant in our lives.  By planting positive thought-seeds, we are growing more of what we love, want, and are grateful for in our lives and experiences.   No one grows corn by planting onions.

Day 103

Affirmation:

I am empowered, but not controlling.

I am strong, but gentle.

I am confident, but never arrogant.

           _______________

It can be a fine line between being strong, confident, capable, and self-assured, and being domineering, arrogant, controlling,  and overpowering.   The first set of qualities are representative of a self-empowered and heart-centered person.  The second set of qualities describe a power-needing and ego-centered person.   It can be easy to move across the line that separates the two.

Anytime that something causes one to feel threatened or unsafe, the ego seeks to move into its self-preservation role.  When it does, a transition from empowered to needing power occurs.  Sometimes the line is crossed when a person who is finding their sense-of-self for the first time overcompensates, inadvertently finding themselves feeling arrogant, rather than empowered.  With conscious attention to one’s actions, thoughts, and intentions, being firmly grounded in empowerment is possible.  Over time, the heart-centered place will become a comfortable lifestyle and habit, such that even the slightest dip into the lower energies of the ego will be quickly noticed and changes made accordingly.

Remember, empowered is NEVER overpowering.

Day 71

Affirmation:

When I am creating I am at-one with the Divine.

I choose to consciously engage creation in my life.

                         ________________

Creation is the process of bringing forth something new.  When we create we engage our own inner divinity as a Creator.  It doesn’t matter what we are creating.   Every time we cook, draw, write, solve a problem, have an idea, imagine, plan, garden, or make up a bedtime story, we are creating.   Every time a pot of coffee is made, something that did not exist a moment before is created.  Each time a mathematical problem is solved, an answer is created.   Humans have unlimited powers of creation but often think in terms of grand results when thinking themselves creators.   To the Universe, the creation of an amoeba is no less signficant than any other creation, just because an amoeba is so small.  Creating a hi-rise building does not engage the creative process any more than creating a quilt….for a doll house.   Engaging in some act of creation, by choice and consciously, opens a channel for the Divine to work with us, and for us to connect to our authentic natures, more readily.

Day 29

Affirmation:

I will eat one meal with complete mindfulness.

                      ____________________

There are Buddhist monks and other practitioners who use eating as an opportunity to practice mindfulness.   What that means is that while they are eating they are eating.  That is–  they are ONLY eating.   They do not talk during meals and their every movement and every thought is related to the meal and eating.

Their thoughts are of gratitude for the grain which gave up its life force and the many hands that saw it go from cultivation to consumption.  They view eating as a divine marriage between the food and the one eating it.  They reflect with awe and humility on the perfection of the body as it takes part in the meal.  Hands that take food from bowl to mouth, a sense of taste that recognizes the earthy flavor, a digestive system that turns a grain of rice into sustenance, all parts in the process are acknowledged and honoured.    They feel, taste, smell, appreciate, unite, and fully engage in what becomes a sacred communion.   I, on the other hand, have actually eaten so fast and so absent-mindedly that I’ve not remembered eating at all.  I like the idea of consciously becoming one with my food.  I especially like the idea of being fully present in the act of eating and appreciating the many, many who have made it possible.   So today, even if it means eating in the closet or the garage so that I’m not disturbed, I’ll eat one meal with the divine grace of a monk.

Day 4

Affirmation:

I live in abundant health and vitality.

I am strong and energetic.

I can see my body, its organs, tissues and cells, bathed in Divine and healing Light at all times.

I feel my body daily rejuvenated.

My body is a vehicle of Divine creation and I treat it with honour and respect.

                             ___________________________________

Whether I am in perfect health at this moment or not makes no difference.  What is important is that my attention be on what I desire, my preferred state.   By continually affirming health, healing, and strength I am channeling the energy of  Divine perfection to every part of my body, via the unlimited power of my own consciousness.    Serving my body well with my actions is also essential.   Intervention and good care are vital and my choices should reflect and promote my preferred state.

When my mind and it’s assertion of health are working in harmony with deliberate action to promote the same, I am creating the ideal circumstances for the attainment of my preferred state.
