Day 130

I am the one living my life.

I am the author of my story.

I live this life in the direction of my dreams.

I live my life according to my hopes and aspirations.

From the time we were born, well-intended adults attached their hopes, dreams, ambitions, and aspirations to our lives, hoping they’d someday become our reality.  We might have heard things like, “I dream that one day you will…” or, “We have planned that when you are old enough you will…”  Perhaps we grew up hearing what sort of mate we should look for or which job we should – or should not – pursue.  Sometimes the process is more subtle.  As children we’re often introduced to activities by those same well-intended adults who have great expectations of our loving, thriving, and devoting ourselves to their interests.  Our inheritance may be our parents unfulfilled dreams or their desire to achieve through our successes.  Because this happens when we’re very young, it’s usually assimilated without question and becomes unconscious programming.  Without our awareness – or permission – we begin living our lives from the scripts others have written for us.  We will be mommies.  We will go to college.  We will marry pretty girls.  We will become the first person in the family to own a home, get a Doctorate, win the Heisman, stay married, record a song, etc., etc., etc.

When our life’s work, our education goals, our hobbies, interests and our dreams are more in alignment with another’s desires than our own…

When we’re striving to fulfill the hopes and aspirations others have for us…

When we’re trying to live up to other’s expectations of us…

…we are not authoring our own lives.  We have settled for letting someone ghost write our lives for us.

It’s never too late to take back our lives, write our own scripts and live our own dreams.  These are our lives we are experiencing and we are the only ones who should be living their lives through us.

Day 89

I keep my focus in the direction of my desires.

If we desire abundance but keep seeing lack everywhere we look, we need to turn and look in a different direction.  If we desire health but our attention is only on ailing, we must change our point of view.  We cannot experience, achieve, or manifest a desire if we’re looking in the direction of what we do not want.  And since we can only see in the direction we face, we must be facing that which we desire.  If we desire harmony, we must look in the direction of harmony rather than staring at discord.  If we wish to have a life we are grateful for, we must be seeing that which we are grateful for.  If we do not like what we’re seeing, we must change our position.

Day 16

I see miracles everywhere.

I see all miracles as created equal.

I am humbled and awed by the miracles of life and existence that are all around me.

I welcome all miracles into my experience.

I am grateful for the miracles in my life.

There are no small miracles.  There are no big miracles.  To the universal font of creation a life-saving healing is no bigger or greater an occurrence than a fortuitous encounter on the street.   Creation does not know the limits of more and less because creation It-self is limitless.  All creation is equally meaningful to its Creator.  Humans assign degrees of importance, worth, and value to acts of creation because we think in terms of judgment, limitation and duality.  The Universe does not.  From a non-physical perspective, every encounter, every birth, every happenstance, every synchronicity, every bit of support made manifest is just as grand and meaningful as every other.

We don’t have to limit ourselves and our thinking either. We can learn to think like the Universe.  The job, the relationship, the healing, the purpose, the resources, the human being, the ant, the quiet moment, the parking space up front, the coupon for free gas, the feather, and the cloud can all be embraced equally without measuring one against the other.  When we view our experiences and the world as independent of  all else – without comparing or thinking of bigger or smaller, lesser or greater- we see each as meaningful and miraculous- period.

Day 236

I intend to live fully, here and now.

I do not wait for someday or oneday; today is my living reality.

“When I am an old woman I shall wear purple, with a red hat that doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me”… “I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired and gobble up samples in shops”… “and run my stick along the public railings and make up for the sobriety of my youth.”  (by Jenny Joseph)

I’ve long enjoyed Ms. Joseph’s poem, but would love to ask her, “Why wait until you’re an old woman?  Why not wear purple now?”  Perhaps it is in a very human attempt to feel immortal that we save so much living for tomorrow.  After all, if living is saved for a later date, then the future must be certain… Or so we would like to believe.

We save words for better moments, clothes, linens, and dishware for special occasions, and the reaching for of goals for a later point in life when we have more time (is there a 25 hour day coming sometime in the near future that no one told me about?).  We save our dreams for ideal settings and our hearts for ideal partners.  Why?  What if tomorrow never comes? What if life never matches up to our ideal?

An email went around several years ago, telling of the man who’d bought his wife a very beautiful nightgown, which he secreted away in a closet to give her some day when the time was right.  As the story goes, his wife was suddenly killed and he found the nightie he’d never given her, the sight of which filled him with regret.  So how many joys, dreams, words, chances, clothes or pieces of crystal are you saving?

Day 188

I am the author of my life.

My dreams are all possible.

I claim my right to be happy.

I listen to the wisdom of others but decide for myself.

I have an amazing inner strength that has gotten me this far.

I am empowered.

I am not threatened by the fears of others.

I am responsible for how I live my life.

I let nothing hold me back.

I have no ties to old pains.

I live by my own light.

I am free to live ALIVE.

Just as person can be physically enslaved, but maintain an inner freedom of spirit, so can a person can be physically free yet enslaved by the mind and the emotions.  Claim your right to be free from whatever oppression you feel in your life.  Such freedom is the birthright of every individual.  All freedom (even physical) begins first in the mind.  Free yourself from self-doubt, fear, lack of esteem, intolerance or any of the other lower energies that imprison, dis-able and discourage.  Release yourself from your inner chains and feel the freedom to be truly ALIVE in your living.

Day 169

I will not be concerned about the limited thinking of others.

I will not be hindered by my own feelings of limitation.

I believe in possibilities.

The Divine exists within everything and The Divine is limitless, therefore everything contains limitless potential.

It’s easy to be swayed into feelings of limitation when confidence is shaky.  If my thoughts are of the not possible, too hard, no way, not enough time, or don’t see how kind, then I am approaching my situation from limitation.  If others offer me the same sort of garden variety limiting thoughts, they too are viewing the situation from a perspective of limitation.

If an endeavor, issue, or goal is seen through the lens of limitation, then the situation will, in fact, be bounded and held in a limited space.  Nothing can be held in the space of infinite possibilities unless it is perceived as such.  Our thoughts either cage our opportunities in limitations or free them with limitless beliefs.

Consider any one of the most amazing events you’ve experienced in your life – how you met your partner, how you came to live where you do, how you found your way to a sense of purpose, for example.  Think for a moment about how that situation came to be.  Consider the many unexpected twists and turns that preceded its presentation in your life, the number of dominoes that had to line up just so to make it happen…  Mind boggling, isn’t it?  And while you knew you wanted the outcome, how it would all come together was something you never could have imagined, because even our imaginations are limited by our thoughts.  When you look at your own incredible experiences and what went into making them happen, how can anything be impossible?

We can’t begin to perceive how creation is orchestrated, so why hinder it from the onset with feelings of limitation? Don’t cage your dreams in, and don’t let others cage your dreams in either.  Let them soar freely, with pure belief in possibilities…

Day 168

I think like God thinks and I love as God loves.

I see the world through the eyes of  The Divine, and love the world with a Divine Heart.

I strive to live in alignment with my Source.

One of the desirable effects of spiritual practice is alignment with The Divine.  How do you know when if you’re in alignment with your Source?  You feel good.  You feel good about yourself and about your life.  You find synchronicity and so-called coincidences abounding.  You find you are consistently in the right place at the right time.  Your intuitive feelings are not only stronger but more often than not, they’re accurate.  Your desires, dreams, wishes and hopes seems to manifest more easily and quickly.  You find yourself meeting or attracting people who are also in alignment, who are ‘on the same wavelength’ literally.  Your health improves, you sleep better, you desire healthier food and circumstances, and you have more energy.  You have more confidence, feel more loving, patient, and tolerant.  You feel more creative, desiring to participate in a creative endeavor of some kind.  You feel good.  No one is always in alignment, not while they are incarnated on this planet, but even a moment in such a state of grace can inspire a lifetime of right practice.

Day 60

I release the expectations I place on others.

I seek to control only my own behaviour.

It is easy to become frustrated when others do not act in ways appropriate to my expectations.   If I have expectations of consideration and I am ignored, I am likely to feel badly.  If I have expectations of receiving a gift and none arrives, I am likely to be disappointed, hurt and frustrated.  Whatever my expectations are, I must recognize that they are based on MY beliefs, feelings, previous experiences, moral, values, ethics, ideals, dreams and more.  My expectations are a reflection of ME and to place them on another, especially if they haven’t been informed of them as a guideline that I’ve set for THEIR behaviour, is unfair and unjust.  I can not control the behaviour of others.  I can not force someone else to adhere to my expections.  I can only, myself, act in congruence with my own expectations.  If I expect courtesy, I must be courteous.  If I expect kindness and respect, I must give kindness and respect.   I will allow others to be and act in accordance with their own beliefs, feelings, morals, values, ideals, dreams and previous experiences.  I will not allow myself to be mistreated but I will also not mistreat others by placing my guidelines for behaviour upon them.    I always have the choice to disassociate with those whom I am not in rapport with.  I can always choose my response, but it is not my place to choose another’s.
