Day 119

Affirmation:

I am here in this moment and I feel safe.

I am here in this moment and I feel secure.

I am here in this moment and I feel at ease.

I am here in this moment and I am safe.

I am here in this moment and I am secure.

I am here in this moment and I am at ease.

Fear always arises in the present moment but is never about circumstances that exist in the present moment. The present circumstances are nothing more than triggers or precipitating factors for fear.  Fear is the result of anticipatory thoughts of a future, yet-to-happen experience.

We can consider any fear – from a fear of flying to a fear of abandonment – and in each instance the fear is the result of a thought of what could happen in a future time.  Once a fear is realized it disappears or is replaced by a new fear. Fear is always moving forward into the next possible point in time and the experience that may arise. For instance, a person who is afraid of walking alone at night is actually afraid of what may happen to them while walking, such as being robbed.  But should they find themselves being robbed, the fear of being robbed will be replaced by a new fear, perhaps of being injured.  And if injured, the fear of being injured will be replaced by a new fear of another as yet realized experience.

So what does all this mean?  It means that we can overcome our fears when we recognize that fear is an anticipatory response that can only exist outside the present moment.  This awareness means that we can live outside of fear when we understand and accept that even while in the midst of our most feared experience we would not be afraid of that current experience.  We cannot avoid the inevitable experiences that cause us anxiety and distress, but we can work toward eliminating the fear we create and experience as the result of living in a future yet-to-be by holding ourselves in a present moment mindset – a place where fear does not exist.

Day 87

Affirmation:

I am a garden

I am creation manifest.

I am growing, evolving, transforming and bearing the fruits of love abundantly.

I nourish myself of my harvest and share infinitely with others.

In our most natural state, we are gardens.  We grow strongest in well fertilized soil, are in a constant state of transformation, and our existence is often plagued with pests and weeds, but with mindfulness, and the help of others, we overcome and become productive.  Our perennial crop is love, and when upon harvest we have enough for ourselves and others.

Day 76

Affirmation:

I have enough.

I am enough.

I see abundance, plenty and potential everywhere I look.

I appreciate what I have.

I appreciate all I am.

I express gratitude daily for all that I have and all that I am.

It’s so easy to be drawn in by the lure of lack and insufficiency, our media sources drown us daily with information about what we don’t have enough of  – things like health, style, beauty, security, financial freedom and excitement.  And media very generously offers the solutions to these same shortage problems – drugs, fashion trends, makeup and cosmetic surgery,  insurance and investment options and a slick sports car with a sexy passenger.  Those same media sources also try to convince us that what we do have isn’t good enough – think bigger house, fuller breasts, whiter teeth, greener lawns, more sexual vigor and fewer gray hairs.  The outside world is constantly selling us the idea that what we have and what we are is not enough.  No wonder our attention is constantly falling on what we believe is missing or in short supply!  The truth is that we already have and are so much more than we think.

To see what we have we need to shift our perspective from one of lack and shortage to one of abundance and flow.  That shift begins by recognizing how often we put our attention on what we want more of, less of or better. While some want is born of a desire for expansion, as in, “I want to someday take a trip to Spain,” most want has a very different energy, as in , “I want a more agreeable and loving partner.” (which translates to, “I don’t have a very agreeable and loving partner.”)  And it’s the want that comes from lack that keeps us in misery.  Once we recognize our patterns of wanting and from where they derive,  we can make a switch and start thinking instead about what we have.

By shifting from constant thoughts of “I want…” to  constant thoughts of “I have…” we begin to appreciate what we  already possess and experience and how perfectly it has served us.  Thoughts of “I have…” and the gratitude they provoke are the seeds for future abundance and plenty.  When we see that same partner with grateful “I have…” eyes, we start to notice wonderful traits previously hidden by our discontent and our attitude toward them changes.  Most amazingly, as our perspective changes from want to have, the things we have and appreciate begin to transform and become the things we always wanted.

Day 70

Affirmation:

Today I will see God in the details.

If we want to know Divinity, all we have to do is look around.  In every particle of light filtering thru the window we can know the Absolute’s illumination. In every newly revealed green leaf & blossom, we can see the Divine’s celebration of life. In every bird song of joy, every child’s cry of need, and every lover’s sigh of passion, we can hear voice of the Infinite Spirit. In this morning’s hot coffee and tonight’s cool sheets, in a stranger’s smile and an old friend’s embrace, in the rhythm of our breath and the beating of our hearts, in all the little details we can experience the Source of all existence as it appears in ordinary life and experiences.

Day 42

Affirmation:

I am a passionate being.

I allow my passion to ignite life within me.

I find infinite opportunities to experience and express passionately.

Passion is the inner spark of the Divine come ablaze.  Passion is the outward expression of an internal expression of the heart.   Passion inspires and activates potential.  It’s a causation for creation.  It emboldens us to life and living.  Passion creates an opening by which the Divine can manifest in the world, thru the body, mind and heart.  Passion may be an intimate exchange with another but it is ALWAYS an intimate exchange between ourselves and our Source.   I give myself permission to be the passionate being I AM.

Day 9

Affirmation:

I already am the best version of myself I could ever be.

I have nothing to perfect; I am perfection by my nature.

I surrender my efforts to become someone so that who I AM may be revealed.

____________________

It is so easy to become entangled in the belief that the spiritual journey is a journey toward perfecting one’s self.   After all, if we work hard enough at becoming good and just and tolerant and patient and loving and, and, and, then we’ll achieve something.  Then we’ll become our best selves.  Yes, the spiritual journey is about expressing humanely and lovingly but there is nothing to perfect.  The secret- the REAL secret- is that we are all already perfected.  We don’t have to work toward becoming anything because all we seek to be we already are.  The only work we have to do is to reveal our true natures.

The true essence of the spiritual journey is the peeling away of layers we’ve gathered around ourselves.  It’s the un-learning of who we think we are and who we think we ought to be so we can be who we’ve always been – the one who is buried underneath the judgments, taming, and expectations of the world.  It’s the disarming of ourselves- removing the emotional armor and dropping the ego-created shields we carry in order to expose our true selves.  We are eternal, Divine, and heart-centered beings by nature with nothing to strive for but often much to let go of.  We are whole, complete, and already perfected.  We’ve just forgotten.

Day 8

Affirmation:

I am having fun with life!

I intend to enjoy the ride today!

I will stop taking myself so seriously.

I will have fun and find reasons to laugh.  Or laugh for no reason at all!

I will not work so hard at ‘being’ instead I will just BE the beautiful, joyous, spark of life I AM.

No matter how seriously life wants me to take it, I will not be deterred from being playful with it all.

When we ‘lighten up’ we actually do Light-en up because we raise our vibration to one that is closer to our Source.  So let’s have fun and enjoy the journey!

Day 161

Affirmation:

Never again will I be this *me* that I am in this life.

Never again will I have this mind, this life experience, and these opportunities to become all that I can be.

I may live a thousand lifetimes, but the *me* I am in this lifetime gets but one chance and it’s here and it’s now.

Day 74

Affirmation:

I do not seek validation of my worth from others.  I know I am worthy.

I do not seek confirmation of my purpose from others.  I have my own sense of purpose.

I do not seek affirmation of my presence in the world from others. I am aware of my own presence.

I do not seek acceptance of my authentic nature from others.  I know I AM.

                 ____________

Too often we look to the outside world to provide what we can only truly receive from within.  When we rely on the external to give us what we should cultivate from within, we become dependent upon that external source.  If that source is then removed, so too is some aspect of our sense of self.  For example, if I receive validation of my worth from the outer world, all is fine until that outer source of validation is gone.  Once gone, I will find myself lacking in worthiness.    What we base our sense of self on must originate internally and then be supported by the external, not the other way around.
